New Student Center TV From The SGA

Students have been noticing the new TV in the Student Center. It was purchased by the SGA for amount around $3,000.

We felt this would be a good purchase for the student body. The TV that was currently used was also purchased by the SGA about 8 years ago. It has gone through its fair share of wear and tear so it was about time to get a new one. Maintenance must prop to TV up, wire it for electricity, and wire it for the cable. It's a three person process and the first step has been completed. So, be patient for the rest of the process to be complete.

One question that has been asked is: what are you going to do with the old TV? We want to give the old TV to a place where it can be best used. Currently, we are planning to donate the TV to the St. Johnsbury Children's Center, who could really use a TV. So, rather than sell it for a couple hundred bucks, we figured it would be good to put it to a good cause.

Jiu-Jitsu Passed as a New Club

by Jonathan Maciel
SGA President

The Jiu-Jitsu Club's constitution passed by the SGA members last night so they are now a new club on campus. The Jiu-Jitsu is not just limited to Jiu-Jitsu because of its diversity. Wrestling, Mixed Martial Arts, and Kickboxing are also welcomed in the club for cross-training. For more information about the club, send an e-mail to John Shanks, the Club President.
Training accessories are not needed. Shorts and t-shirt or shorts and Under Armour shirt will suffice.

New SGA Constitution Passed

by Jonathan Maciel
SGA President

Last night, the members of the SGA passed a new constitution for the Student Government. The SGA is now running as a joint body so it was very important that it passed to clarify how it runs as a joint body, especially during the budgeting process when Elected Representatives vote with the Club Representatives.
The most controversal issue was with the election of a Treasurer since it must also be approved by the Business Department. However, this ensurers that the Treasurer take additional responsbility for his position, but it does not limit the position to only Business Majors. Through the Business Department, the Treasurer may opt to take it for internship credit.
All Club and Elected Representatives must have and maintain at least a 2.0 GPA. Initially, it was only for Elected Representatives, however, it was decided that Club Representatives should maintain that GPA because having below a 2.0 places a student on academic probation. In such a situation, the student should be concentrating on their school work rather than being a representative.
The next step is to have the constitution ratified by the student body. The Board of Elections is looking into having the SGA and Executive Board elections online.

New Treasurer Elected

by Jonathan Maciel
SGA President

Last night, the SGA elected a new Treasurer - Brian Quigley, former 1st year Elected Representative. Brian Quigley is a member of the SGA Constitution Committee as well as the SGA Spring Day Committee. He is a Business Major and this will be a great opportunity for him to excel in his field.
We hope that he will continue to run as Treasurer in the future for the SGA and continue to learn to excel in his position as the SGA Treasurer. Despite contreversy about electing a Treasurer at this time, the general consensus was that this will be a great time to learn the position. He will be getting plenty of support from the Executive Board and the Advisors while learning the position.
